Today at 4:44pm, Alexander will be four weeks old! And what a four weeks it has been...
His schedule was completely backwards for a couple of weeks! Sleeping all day, and keeping us awake all night. We tried waking him up during the day, but that didn't happen. We were very tempted to succumb to an old wife's tale of rolling him up the bed, from the foot to the head, to get him on our clock. Luckily, my mom (Grandmommy) came to the rescue! She came and gave us some relief (we got sleep!) and she stayed up at night with him. We went to the park and gave him lots of vitamin D, and now, lo and behold, he is on a normal schedule! Here is my typical night with Alexander:
9pm: Alexander goes to sleep, Amy eats dinner
11pm: Amy goes to sleep, Jason feeds & rocks Alexander
2am: Amy feeds Alex, changes his diaper, and rocks him to sleep
4:30am:Amy feeds Alex, changes his diaper, and rocks him to sleep
7am:Amy feeds Alex, changes his diaper, and puts him in his swing until he gets bored and falls back asleep
Exciting huh? It makes me really appreciate those two nights of sleep in the hospital when the nurses took care of him. I am so glad I sent him to the nursery those two nights. I can't imagine keeping him in the room with me and having to take care of him when I was in such bad shape!
At home now, Alexander has taken a seriously liking to sleeping in the "newborn cradler" in his pack n play. For a while he slept in his bassinett in our room, but once he realized how cozy that thing was, he decided that was the only bed for him!
Jason has been super helpful and hands on. It's been fantastic. I am pretty sure I didn't change a diaper for the first week of Alexander's life while I was healing and recuperating. Our wonderful son has managed to poop, pee, and throw up on his daddy, and pee and projectile vomit on his mommy. *sigh* Babies are messy, and gross. Good thing they are so cute to make up for it! :)
Alexander's first Christmas and New Year's went well. We can't wait until next Christmas when we can give him toys that he will actually play with and not just stare at!
Well, right now Kelly, Michael, and Gabriel are on their way up from Houston for a visit. It will be so exciting for Gabriel to meet his little cousin Alexander! Better go eat and shower!
